Today’s post is all about Mascara Wars: Chanel vs. Guerlain
Note: Italics are press release statements from the makeup brand. These are samples I received from a previous purchase at Sephora and Chanel.com. My lashes are naturally curly, so I did not do any lash prep prior to mascara application. I also did not apply any mascara base prior, so this is purely just the mascara in review.
Chanel Inimitable Intense (10) Noir Mascara is a jet black mascara with a unique lash wand designed to make lashes appear longer, thicker and more curled, yet each lash, even the finest, is still precisely separated – without clumping, spiking or flaking. I love it when its wand was able to separate every single lash without clumping. It also lengthens the individual lashes. However, it is lightly pigmented so it fails to make your lashes look fuller. It averages over 14 hours of wear time and still looks absolutely looks the same when I first applied. It got stiffer bristles which are awesome in separating individual lashes but you need to be extra careful not to poke your eye, because it does hurt pretty bad. You definitely need to apply a mascara base beforehand, to make your lashes look fuller and thicker. It is a non-drying formulation.
Guerlain Cils D’Enfer Maxi Lash (01) Noir Mascara Experience astonishing volume and staggering curl thanks to high-performance polymer trio. The first one wraps the lashes in extremely adherent oils to thicken the lashes. The second one, made with supple waxes, acts like a conditioner, softening the lashes so you can sculpt them into just the right shape and style. The last one acts almost like a finishing hair spray to set the amazing curve. It is richly pigmented blackest black that makes your lashes look thicker, fuller and curler. It also lasts over 14 hours of wear, keeping that same polished look when first applied. The drawback that I can think of, is that it tends to clump some of the lashes due to its thicker consistency. The applicator wand are very soft and widely spaced that it doesn’t separate some of the lashes individually. It is also non-drying and you don’t have to apply a mascara base before application.
The Bottom Line:
I love the applicator wand of Chanel’s Inimitable Intense Mascara because it never clumps my lashes and just takes the right amount of product from the tube but the bristles are too stiff that sometimes I accidentally poke my eye that hurts real bad,you need practice and caution when dealing with it. However, it lacks the formulation and pigmentation I need, it fails in making my lashes look fuller and thicker. Guerlain Cils D’Enfer Maxi Lash on the other hand, I love the formulation and pigmentation because it does fulfill its claims of making my lashes fuller, thicker and curler. What I don’t like is the applicator wand, it delivers a lot of the product which clumps my lashes. So what I did, I use both of them together and I’ve never been satisfied and happy with a mascara since. I apply Guerlain Cils D’Enfer Maxi Lash then follow it up with Chanel’s Inimitable Intense Mascara. Give this a try and you’ll get a fuller, thicker, curler lashes that lasts all day.
