This is the 3rd and last part for my Mac Retro Matte Lipstick Review series. You can read Part 1 and Part 2 by clicking on the link or in the related posts below. I’m fascinated by this shade since Fall is officially here. Our Maple and Oak trees in the yard has started to change their leaf colors and it should be about time to do some raking within the next couple of weeks. A chore I hate to do every year. If only I can shake those trees to make all leaves fall all at once then I should be done for the season.
For Fall 2013, I love wearing vampy wine reds, blackened purples and deep bluish reds on my lips. And Mac’s Retro Matte Lipstick in Fixed on Drama is unequivocally part of the Fall Vampy clique.
Mac Retro Matte Lipstick in Fixed on Drama is described as a rich wine with a matte finish. It appears as a matte dark burgundy red with subtle cool undertones on my lips. It averages for only 4.5 hours of wear on me which is very surprising for a retro matte finish with a deeper color. It left a stain for the next 1.5 hours of wear. It is one of the most drying retro matte lipstick from the Collection, tied with Mac Runway Hit. It does pull or tug if applied across the lips straight from the bullet. I highly recommend applying the product with a lip brush. It is mostly opaque but appears patchy once applied on the lips. The pigment clings to even the tiniest bit of flake or chap on my lips, so a lip prep is undeniably a must. Not the greatest in formula from the Collection but one of my favorite shades to wear this Fall.
The Bottom Line:
It’s sad that the colors I love from the Mac Retro Matte Collection like: Mac Runway Hit and Mac Fixed on Drama, failed in terms of formulation and application. I did some comparison with the similar lipstick shades I currently own: Riri Hearts Mac in Talk that Talk and Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Desiree. Riri Hearts Mac in Talk that Talk Lipstick is pretty similar but a darker wine red. Mac Retro Matte in Fixed on Drama is one of the bestseller shades of Mac Retro Matte Collection and undoubtedly I agree. You really need deep full-on lip exfoliation the night before wearing this shade or else, it will definitely look patchy, cling into the flakes of your lips, making it horrendous to look at. Make sure you have a reputable lip balm handy for some quick touch ups throughout the day.
