Hi Everyone! If you are an avid reader of this blog, I did mentioned awhile back that my Husband and I went to Mexico for a weeklong vacation. We stayed over my Mom-in-Law Cathy’s Condo in Playa del Carmen. So I decided to split this post into 2 parts since it’s going to be picture heavy. Since summer is fast approaching here in US, you might want to check out Playa del Carmen. It’s only a 2 hour and 45 minute direct flight from Kansas City to Cancun, Mexico and takes 30 minutes tops to drive south to Playa. If you are worried with your family’s safety and security, Playa del Carmen is one of the safest and tourist friendly places in Mexico. It is located on the eastern peninsula facing the Caribbean Sea in Quintana Roo state.
We went for an entire day excursion in Xcaret. It took as 15 minutes to reach Xel-Ha from Playa del Carmen. It’s a mayan civilization archeological site which is also an Eco Theme Park. You feel like you are on an archeological trip, at the same time being in the zoo while you enjoy eating delicious food and taking a dip either at the beach or in the underground lazy river. There are also water sports that you might give a shot or you can do snorkeling and parasailing. I love the underground lazy river as the currents are very unpredictable. You got 3 options to choose on which route you’d like to take: either if you want to explore the dark in caves or if you are like me who’s afraid of the dark, there’s a route that got more light from the vents above ground.
The food and the daily weather reminds me of home. I grew up in Cebu, Philippines and summer starts there in late March to early July. The daily temperature ranges between 75F – 89F with a humidity of 80%. The tropical fruits and the seafood are gastronomical. My Husband and I are both seafood freaks! That’s why are palates are extremely compatible. We also crave eating in “authentic” Mexican restaurants. Authentic to us means: not Tex-Mex taste, places were locals go to and the Exterior and Interior are sometimes not well coordinated. But the food is beyond compare. Like how the quote goes: “Do not judge a book by its cover, because you are not a Judge!” Just kidding.
