Kansas City, MO now becomes my 2nd home! My husband Nick, was born and raised in Blue Springs and around the suburbs of KC. All of his fam bam resides in Kansas City, so our little family always paid them a visit frequently. It’s only a 3-hour drive from our humble abode in Southwest, Iowa. And our trip to KC won’t be complete without dropping by Chez Elle and order my favorite dessert crepe, Patriote!
Chez Elle is a creperie extraordinaire, located in the newly converted and renovated historic Summit Theater. They still preserved the old movie theater ticket booth inside the cafe. It is not only a creperie but also an art gallery and a coffee house. It houses exhibits from visiting artists from all over the country. Chez Elle is owned by Ms. Ellen Trakas. Ellen constitutes one of my mom-in-law, Cathy’s best friends. The building is five stories high and the floors above the restaurant are condo units where it gives you a panoramic view of downtown KC.
One must try their lobster bisque when in Chez Elle. Heck, it’s Kansas City’s finest. And I am not kidding because I finished up 2 full bowls of it. Aside from the sweet crepes, they also serve savory crepes, breakfast crepes, salads and pastries. My meal won’t be complete without their freshly juiced mango smoothie. As a tropical girl, I know how real mango smoothies should taste like. I can taste the tangy mango pulp in it not just from a mango puree turned into a smoothie they often served in other restos.
The cafe is open daily and do visit their website, http://www.chezellekc.com/ for hours of business, events and menus. So when in KC, stop by at Chez Elle!
