When I first tested Mac Cosmetics The Matte Lip Collection Stone Lipstick, I feel like my photos got a sepia filter in them. Maybe because this got strong gray undertones and I am wearing an army green shirt. Anyways, I was very much surprised with how this looks worn than my arm swatch. I pulls more brown on my arm and gray when worn on my lips. Nonetheless, it is a very unique shade that I can’t even find similar shades in my collection. The entire Mac The Matte Lip Collection for summer 2015 are all permanent and surprisingly none of them are sold out. You may also “back to Mac” any of these shades. Since they are permanent, I am saving my money for the upcoming Mac Giambattista Valli collection launching July 2nd. The shades are not unique but the packaging is worth collecting. I think it will sell out in minutes!
Mac Cosmetics The Matte Lip Collection Stone Lipstick is characterized as a muted grayish taupe brown. It appears as a cool mid tone brown with strong gray undertones and a matte finish. It went on for almost 4 hours of wear on me and left a gray stain that lasted for another hour. The texture is a slightly “drier” version matte than Mac Whirl and Mac Men Love Mystery. Although I said “drier”, what I meant to say was it is more matte. It is never drying and didn’t get patchy after the 4 hours of wearing it. This doesn’t have as much transfer as Mac Whirl and Mac Men Love Mystery. It is very pigmented and I’ve noticed that if you only apply a single layer, you can still see the brown in it. But after a couple more layers, it is more taupe gray than brown. I also didn’t noticed any signs of it pulling or tugging during application.
The Bottom Line:
Mac Cosmetics The Matte Lip Collection Stone Lipstick is a nice addition to my collection since it’s a shade I can’t find a closer shade in my stash. If last year is the year of purple lips, this year it’s the year of the browns. Trendy lip colors this year are either: muted rose, 90’s brown or “greige” (grayish beige). As a lipstick addict, I am happy with how the unique the shades of new lip colors which launched and are about to launch this year. I did side by side swatch comparison between: Mac Riri Nude and Lime Crime Cashmere. I think I am pretty much done with this collection. I might get Mac Tropic Tonic or Mac Antique Velvet in the next few months if there won’t be any new releases for lipsticks that are interesting. Do you find this shade interesting?
