I feel like Guerlain is trying it’s best to open their doors to a wider market by making their products available, but in return sacrificing their packaging. This isn’t the first time has done this. Remember Guerlain Poudre de Soie? I feel like I’m “fan girling” but only to get disappointed not just once but twice. It’s a gorgeous highlighter but the packaging is cheap for the brand. Guerlain Terracotta Terre D’Ete got the signature twist cap pan which is a frosted plastic with the golden letters being printed. It’s not the same twist cap wooden pan like the Guerlain Terracotta Sun Celebration for it’s 30th year anniversary from last year. To add insult to injury, the product info. at the back of the pan is a clear sticker with printed golden letters. In all fairness, I am very much pleased that this is a hefty product. It’s the biggest bronzer I’ve owned from Guerlain. When I first heard about this product thru press releases, I immediately decided without any qualms to get it. I just love the pressed sun pattern and also it’s a great addition to my collection. Now let me remind all my brown ladies that it’s more of a highlighter than a bronzer on me. A more distinctive description is it’s a tan enhancing highlighter for women of color.
Guerlain Terracotta Terre D’Ete Tan Enhancing Bronzer appears on my skin as a neutral mocha beige with strong golden undertones. It lasted for almost 9 hours of wear on me. The golden sun pattern is an overspray which is responsible for the prominent golden shimmer. I used this on day 1 as a bronzer and it didn’t do much on my skin. It is fairly opaque but not dark enough to be considered as a bronzer. It’s almost an exact match with my own skin tone but more golden. It also possesses the signature tiare flower scent which is true on most Guerlain Terracotta products. I prefer using this product either as a highlighter when I use this heavily or as a finishing powder when brushed lightly all over the face. The product is a tad bit dry with traces of the powder accumulating at the rim of the pan.
The Bottom Line:
In all honesty, I wasn’t too impressed with the new Guerlain Terracotta Terre D’Ete Tan Enhancing Bronzer. It is just an “okay” product and not exceptionally amazing for a Guerlain. It’s so pretty on the pan but the level of awe I had seeing it can’t equate my thoughts when using it. For those Guerlain fans, this is worth collecting if you’re only after for aesthetics. If you are one of those who likes to collect the “untouchables.” If you are fair skinned, it will give a subtle warmth color but not as a bronzer. I also like wearing this as an all over face powder using a dense fan brush on days I am not feeling wearing any foundation. I am not too happy with the sticker label at the back of the pan. Eventually, when you sat the product in the sink which sometimes gets wet, the label will be peeled off. I am still keeping this for collection purposes. Similar shades are: Surratt Duchesse, Clinique Nude Pop, Chanel Lumiere d’Ete and Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Gelee. My open letter to Guerlain: I’d rather pay a product at this price point, with lesser product than a bad packaging. What are your thoughts?
